All of us have understood the importance of renewing things, be it our Driving Licences, Our Passports, Our Website Subscriptions, News Paper Subscriptions and so on. However, all these doesn’t sound as interesting as Renewable Energy! Sources of Renewable energy are Solar energy, Wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, and biomass energy. This is the future, if we want to have one.
It is the buzzword loved by energy conservationist. The motivation behind this growing change is pollution, warming oceans, climate change, water shortages to name a few. These factors are driving us towards “an energy deficient world”. If we don’t change our path, then, Beware! The world will be reduced to a small habitat due to the lack of Oxygen. It is more scary than it sounds. However, we know, if we change our practices now and instead of the fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and natural gas), turn to renewable energy; we can maintain the safety limit that the scientists caution us about.
Greenpeace International, in collaboration with the Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics, Systems Analysis & Technology Assessment at the German Aerospace Center, have made the announcement of making the impossible possible. They have planned to have a 100% renewable energy world by 2050. what we need is: “A strong, long-term goal, phasing out fossil fuels and nuclear power by 2050 through a just transition to 100% renewable energy, as well as the protection and restoration of forests.” [External Source]
Recently during COP21 in Paris, all the world’s nations have come to a consensus on the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions. This in itself is regarded by many observers as an achievement in itself and is being hailed as “historic”.
The key elements of this deal are : [Source BBC News]
• To keep global temperatures “well below” 2.0C (3.6F) above pre-industrial times and “endeavour to limit” them even more, to 1.5C
• To limit the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by human activity to the same levels that trees, soil and oceans can absorb naturally, beginning at some point between 2050 and 2100
• To review each country’s contribution to cutting emissions every five years so they scale up to the challenge
• For rich countries to help poorer nations by providing “climate finance” to adapt to climate change and switch to renewable energy.
What’s more, not only is this transition possible, but it will create jobs and is cost-competitive. The investment is substantial, however, because renewables don’t require fuel, they will more than cover the costs of the required investment.
The solar industry itself could employ millions which can be 10 fold more than the employed currently. Thanks to the major polluting countries, like China for their lesser use of coal in 2014 that the global energy related CO2 emissions remained stable in spite of the economic growth. These countries have already begun investing in renewables.
Since, the last decade, entrepreneur like Mr. Viral Desai of Zenitex implemented the clever ways to power and profit using nature’s gift. He believes that renewable energy has the potential to boost the profitability of the business by being cost-effective in the long run. Today, the world is competing for to be the first in renewables be it a solar powered airport or a country running completely on renewables.
The way Greenpeace is assisting country like Greece by their initiative “Solarize Greece” crowd-funding campaign in order to help Greece get rid of the burden of fossil fuels that are holding it down economically and for Greece to fight its way back out of the crisis. We at Zenitex also would like some attention towards us in India. Where, in one corner of India, a Small Medium Enterprise, with its limited resources is ushering in a change, which, considering the size of Zenitex is a huge step. However, at Local, State, National and Global level these efforts have gone unnoticed except for receiving a few awards from the Government of India. Awards surely give motivation, but, motivation without resourceful support is like a handicap. Awards only will not make the world Green….
Gradually, everyone is realizing the truth and recognizing the blatant fact that, Coal, Oil and Natural Gas are limited resources on earth and they are bound to be exhausted sooner than later. Without hesitation we should make the difference at our personal, company, state, national level as per our capacity.
Today, green energy or renewable energy for the whole civilization may sound as a passage from a fairy tale, however, with our inclination and enthusiasm this can surely come true.
It is time for action – time to join the revolution…..
